Wright to Read Program InformationThe Wright to Read program has been giving the gift of literacy to students in the Alexandria City Public Schools for 29 years. Wright to Read is a program of the Frank and Betty Wright Foundation and is administered by The Campagna Center. The Center thanks the foundation for their continued support. Wright to Read runs three programs: Tutor/Mentors, Book Buddies, and Reach Out and Read. - Tutor/Mentors: This program provides one-on-one instruction in a student’s home or at a local library. The program runs on evenings and weekends. Volunteers must be age 21 or better, and a background check is conducted. Ongoing training is provided. Mentoring events include Readers Take the Stage and Saturday field trips.
- Book Buddies: Book Buddies offers one-on-one tutoring in a supervised group environment. Volunteers must be age 16 or better.
- Reach Out and Read: Reach Out and Read is a national program. Volunteers participate by reading to children at the Alexandria Health Clinic waiting room. By giving books and information to children at check-ups, doctors also participate in the program. Volunteers must be age 16 or older.
