The Campagna Center Turns the "Lights On" for Afterschool

Campagna Kids Program to Host Celebrations at 12 Alexandria Elementary Schools

ALEXANDRIA, VA – On October 18, 2007, The Campagna Center’s Campagna Kids program will host diverse events at 12 Alexandria elementary schools in honor of the eighth annual Lights On Afterschool celebration. Lights On Afterschool is a nationwide rally created to shine a spotlight on the critical importance of afterschool programs.

“The Campagna Center has a deep history of helping prepare children for academic success and school readiness,” said Campagna Center President & CEO Karen Hughes. “Afterschool programs — like Campagna Kids — are key component of this success. These programs keep children safe and provide support for working families.”

More than 7,500 Lights On Afterschool celebrations are expected to take place across the country. Sponsored by the Afterschool Alliance, the 2007 Lights On Afterschool launches the 10th anniversary of the federal 21st Century Communing Learning Centers initiative. This initiative made afterschool programs available to hundred of thousands of children and families nationwide.
