The Campagna Center's Business Leadership Council Hosts Panel Discussion Featuring Esteemed Community Leaders

Dr. Morton Sherman, Brigadier General Lawrence E. Gillespie, Sr., and Robert Dugger to Speak at April 13 Event 

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Campagna Center, Alexandria’s leading children’s organization, announced the panel for its upcoming Business Leadership Council Distinguished Speaker Series event, “Workforce 2010: Are They Ready to Work for You?” Panelists include:

  • Dr. Morton Sherman, Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent
  • Brigadier General Lawrence E. Gillespie, Sr., United States Army (Ret.) and member of the Executive Advisory Council of Mission Readiness: Military Leaders for Kids
  • Mr. Robert H. Dugger, Founder and Managing Partner of Hanover Investment Group, LLC and Co-founder and Chair of Partnership for America’s Economic Success

The event will take place Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at The Campagna Center, 418 South Washington Street, Alexandria. Doors open at 7:45 am, and the panel will speak following a buffet breakfast.

“Workforce 2010: Are They Ready to Work for You?” is the second installment in The Campagna Center’s 2010 Business Leadership Council’s series “2010: A New Decade for Businesses in Alexandria.” The panel will address issues such as graduation rates and the impact on businesses, early childhood education and its impact on graduation rates, current readiness of our country’s 18- to 25-year-old population, and experiences in hiring recent graduates.

A well-respected, nationally recognized educator with more than 25 years’ experience in raising academic standards, Dr. Morton Sherman serves as the Superintendent of Alexandria City Public Schools. Prior to arriving in Alexandria, Dr. Sherman served as the superintendent of the Tenafly public school system in New Jersey. Under Dr. Sherman’s leadership, Tenafly High School sustained its rank of No. 2 in the state of New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly Magazine. Tenafly also enhanced its high levels of achievement, with 11 of 12 indicators on state-assessments improving.

A senior executive with over 30 years of progressive and demanding leadership, Lawrence E. Gillespie, Brigadier General, US Army (Ret.) serves on the Executive Advisory Council of Mission Readiness: Military Leaders for Kids, a non-profit, bi-partisan organization of retired military leaders founded to ensure continued American security and prosperity into the 21st century by calling for smart investments in the upcoming generation of American children. General Gillespie has significant experience in the security and intelligence arena and has vast knowledge in the conceptualization and organization of strategic problems.

Mr. Robert Dugger is the founder and managing partner of Hanover Investment Group, a firm specializing in helping business and government clients navigate significant changes in fiscal conditions. He also serves as the Co-founder and Chair of Partnership for America’s Economic Success. Mr. Dugger’s philanthropic commitments concentrate on the area of child development economics. In addition to this involvement with Partnership for America’s Economic Success, Mr. Dugger is chairman of the Invest in Kids Working Group, and a Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development. All of these projects focus on ascertaining and communicating the economic growth and job creation value of youth human capital and investing early in the lives of children.
