The Campagna Center's Business Leadership Council Welcomes NPR Pentagon Reporter

Tom Bowman to Speak at September 20 Event

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Campagna Center, Alexandria’s leading children’s organization, announced today that Tom Bowman, an award-winning reporter with more than twenty years of experience, will address the Business Leadership Council at The Campagna Center (418 South Washington Street) on Thursday, September 20. The event is part of the Business Leadership Council’s Distinguished Speaker Series. Mr. Bowman will speak following a buffet breakfast. Doors open at 7:45 am.

Mr. Bowman has been covering the Pentagon for the past decade. He also covered the Maryland Statehouse, the US Congress, the US Naval Academy, and the National Security Agency (NSA). His coverage of racial and gender discrimination at NSA led to a Pentagon investigation in 1994. Bowman also co-wrote a six-part series on NSA, “No Such Agency,” which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

“We are very pleased to welcome Tom to the Business Leadership Council,” said Karen Hughes, The Campagna Center’s President and CEO. “The Business Leadership Council is a public-private partnership taking an active role in addressing the issues that will define the future of Alexandria. The Campagna Center greatly values our partnerships with BLC members; together, we are working to ensure that children in Alexandria arrive at school ready to learn.”

The Business Leadership Council’s prestigious membership roster includes more than 250 business, civic and religious leaders from around the metropolitan area. At a time when demand for services is growing in the face of significant changes in public funding priorities, Council members provide expertise and resources to fill the funding gap. Corporate partners include Capital One, Altria, PNC, and 7-Eleven.

Membership in the BLC offers a wide range of benefits, including opportunities to attend business and social events; network with other professionals and government officials; secure dignitary passes to high-profile events like The Annual Campagna Center Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend; and enjoy discounts on event ticket and golf packages, advertising, building rental, and much more. BLC membership is open to all.

The next Campagna Center Business Leadership Council Distinguished Speaker Series will take place on Tuesday, November 6 at 8:00 a.m. Michael Maibach—President & CEO of the European-American Business Council, an organization dedicated to promoting Trans-Atlantic growth.
