Walter founded The Lukens Company in 1986, and currently serves as Chief Executive Officer. Under his direction, The Lukens Company has expanded significantly from a firm focused on political direct mail fundraising to an integrated, multi-channel direct response marketing agency with a national footprint, serving political, non-profit and for profit clients. Today, The Lukens Company has annual revenues in excess of twenty-five million and offices in Northern Virginia, Los Angeles, and Charleston, South Carolina.
Originally, from the Philadelphia area, Walter is deeply involved in his community and in the broader Washington, D.C. metropolitan region, specifically with non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children and supporting the arts. Walter currently serves on the Boards of The Campagna Center and Living Classrooms of the National Capitol Area. He has previously chaired The Campagna Center Board and served on the boards of Children’s National Hospital, The Alexandria Country Day School and of the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League.
In addition to leading The Lukens Company, Walter is the founder of several other businesses including Predictive Data and Analytics, Inc. and Person 2 Person Messaging. He has been featured in numerous direct response marketing publications, including DM News and Direct Marketing Magazine, as well as in The New York Times, The New York Times Sunday Magazine and The Washington Post. He is a frequent speaker at direct marketing associations across the country, and at conferences of both the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and DMA of Washington, DC. He has taught direct response marketing courses at George Washington University and New York University.
Prior to starting The Lukens Company, Walter served as a senior advisor to Senator Bob Dole’s 1988 presidential campaign and was active in the Senator’s subsequent national efforts. Walter lives in Alexandria, Virginia. He enjoys spending time with his family in Ocean City, New Jersey and has been known to “play golf,” (these efforts are cause for some amusement among his friends).
