Campagna Center has always been powered by a broad base of volunteers. Stretching back to the 1960s, committed community members from the Junior Friends to Wright to Read Tutors to members of our Board of Directors have made it possible for us to serve over 2,000 children and families in Alexandria each year. Friends of Campagna—we hope you will join us!
Friends of Campagna is the volunteer group for anyone and everyone ready to help advance the mission of the organization and build bonds of friendship and service. No matter how you choose to get involved, you will become a member of our bigger team.
Ways to Volunteer
Our volunteer-based programs, Wright to Read and New Neighbors, are always eager to welcome in new volunteers.
- Wright to Read: Our K-5 literacy tutoring/mentoring program, Wright to Read, recruits, trains, and matches new Tutor/Mentors year-round. Tutor/mentors are asked to work with their mentee for at least one year, but many of these relationships last 3 years or longer. If you are interested in sharing the gift of reading, click here to learn more information about the program and to apply.
- New Neighbors: New Neighbors is an adult English language learning program serving refugees and immigrants in our community. We have two semesters each year and each semester is about 14 weeks long. Our classes meet 3 times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 9 :30 am to 12 pm. We recruit volunteer teachers to work with our students. You do not have to be available three days a week. All volunteers work in groups on a rotating schedule.
- Events: Our programs have many events throughout the year that require volunteer support. You can find out about the upcoming opportunities by subscribing to our FoC emails.
- Building Better Futures Support: Our middle and high school program needs college and scholarship application reviewers, chaperones for college visits, seminar presenters, hosts for brief externships, and other career and college readiness related service.
- Photography: We regularly need photographers to capture impactful moments at Campagna events and programming. Whether you are a professional looking to volunteer your expertise or an amateur searching for meaningful opportunities to hone your skills, we’d love to have you support our mission through photography.
- Training for our Staff members
- Graphic design
- Legal Guidance/support
- Public relations and marketing consultation
- Facility maintenance
We need volunteers to perform administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and assisting with mailings and special projects. For these opportunities, availability between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays is preferred. We advertise these opportunities as they arise in our regular FoC emails.
We need preparation support and day of assistance at our annual fundraising events.
We particularly need volunteers to support the Annual Parade which is a part of the Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend.
Information about these opportunities is provided through our FoC emails.
Many community members volunteer their time and talents as Board Members, Committee Members, and Early Childhood Policy Council members.
