A group of 14 high school students ranging from freshmen to seniors visited two area schools as part of The Campagna Center’s Building Better Futures program. On April 20, students departed TC Williams via bus to Morgan State University, a historically black college, located outside of Baltimore. Their visit included a presentation from the admissions department, a tour of the campus and classrooms, and ended with lunch in the dining hall.
"I have been volunteering with Wright to Read since 2016. My favorite part about volunteering is being able to reach beyond social constructs to make a connection with someone who is completely different from me. Volunteering helps me to remember that although we all may have different backgrounds, we can still relate to each other, learn from each other and help each other succeed.
For more than 70 years, The Campagna Center has been helping children, teens, and adults in Alexandria reach their potential by supplementing public services with vital pre-K education, after-school programs, tutoring and mentoring, family support services, and English classes for immigrants. We could not do the work we do without community partners such as AHC Affordable Housing.
Each year, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce hosts a Business Awards competition to honor local companies and organizations for their positive contributions to the Alexandria community. Each of the businesses nominated must set a high standard for excellence and innovation with their business practices and community involvement.
