Longtime nonprofit leader to succeed Dr. Tammy Mann following 13 years of transformational leadership

May 15, 2025, Alexandria, VA – Following a highly competitive national search, the Board of Directors today announced Edith Hawkins as Campagna’s next President & CEO. “We are excited and confident that Edith is exactly the leader we need at this moment in the organization’s history,” said Board Chair Stephanie Wiggins. On June 2, 2025, Edith will succeed Dr. Tammy Mann, who will step down after 13 years of service to the organization.
Edith Hawkins brings over 25 years of experience in nonprofit management, education, public policy, and youth development to her new role. Her career is marked by a consistent commitment to equity, innovation, and impact at the local, regional, and national levels.
Edith returns to Campagna Center with deep institutional knowledge, having previously served from 2014 to 2022 as the organization’s first Chief Program Officer. During that time, she led over 200 staff members across 50+ classroom sites, oversaw a $7 million program budget, and delivered services to nearly 2,500 youth and families. She was instrumental in securing over $5 million in recurring federal funding, navigating the pandemic, taking services virtual, and relaunching critical childcare programs. Edith also helped establish strategic partnerships with the Alexandria City Public Schools, the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, and local nonprofits, while she simultaneously advanced the organization’s efforts to examine its actions, practices, and policies to ensure they met the needs of those served.
Most recently, she served as Principal of Strategic Catalyst Consulting, advising nonprofits on strategic planning and program design. Prior to that, she was Executive Vice President at the Forum for Youth Investment, where she created the framework for a five-state, cross-system initiative to support youth who are disconnected from school and work, built a $1.2 million annual budget, secured $500,000 in philanthropic funding, and co-chaired the organization’s DEI Committee.
Edith’s leadership style reflects a community-driven approach rooted in empathy, strategy, and collaboration. Her ability to align cross-sector partnerships and lead high-performing teams has consistently led to stronger outcomes for children and families.
Edith holds a Master of Public Policy from Duke University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Journalism from Rutgers University.
“I am honored to serve as the next President and CEO of Campagna Center—an organization that has long stood as a beacon of opportunity and support in Alexandria,” said Hawkins. “This mission is deeply personal to me. I’m grateful for the chance to build on Dr. Mann’s incredible legacy and I look forward to working with our dedicated board, staff, families, and partners to expand access, elevate community voices, and ensure every child and family has what they need to thrive.”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled for Campagna Center and this next chapter in its remarkable story of success in Alexandria,” said Tammy Mann, outgoing President & CEO. “Edith is deeply committed to the mission and more than ready to propel the organization forward to experience even greater impact.”
Outside of her professional work, Edith enjoys traveling with her husband, Corey, hosting friends and family, and spending time with their three children—Christian, Corey, and Corria. She regularly volunteers with her family for several causes, including food security, foster care advocacy, and domestic violence prevention.
