Campagna Center Completes $6.7M Capital Campaign with Transformational Gift from MacKenzie Scott
Alexandria, VA – Campagna Center, Alexandria’s oldest nonprofit organization serving children and families from cradle to career, announced today that it has successfully concluded its $6.7M Forward Together capital campaign. The funds raised through Forward Together will allow Campagna Center to reimagine its South Washington Street headquarters to better serve the more than 2,000 children, teens, and adults who rely on the Center’s educational and social development programs each year.
Launched in January 2022 and supported by more than 250 donors including individuals, private foundations, and corporations, Forward Together sought to create a modern space for Campagna Center’s programs, ensuring the building matches the quality of care they provide. Through the revived and renovated space, the organization will address the increasing demand for programs and services that equip young children with crucial skills, place school-age children on a path to becoming productive adults, and support and empower families.
“We are humbled by our generous community of supporters, especially our early investors who championed our vision from the beginning,” said campaign co-chairs Walter Lukens and Alden Philbrick. “This campaign has been a success thanks to our donors’ steadfast encouragement, commitment to our mission, and financial support. We are moving Forward Together into this new phase of Campagna Center’s mission and service to families in Alexandria, and we are thrilled to welcome the community to our transformed facility at the end of the year.”
Along with the support of Campagna Center’s donors, the organization also announced today a transformational gift to the campaign in a $4 million investment from MacKenzie Scott.
“Ms. Scott’s extraordinary and unexpected gift will be put to work as we aim to reach more children and families in need of Campagna Center’s support,” said Campagna Center’s President and CEO, Dr. Tammy L. Mann. “Campagna Center is honored to have been identified as an organization doing exceptional work worthy of an investment of this magnitude that will help ensure our continued impact today, tomorrow and well into the future. We are deeply grateful to Ms. Scott and her tremendous generosity.”
Campagna Center will use this investment to complete renovations currently in progress and scheduled to be finished by the end of 2023. The building’s first floor is being transformed into a dynamic program space with the addition of private meeting rooms, a children’s library, and various classroom spaces to be used across the organization’s programs. The second floor will provide flexible workspaces for staff and volunteers. Most importantly, the renovated facility will bring the mission to life with the addition of program space inside of its headquarters for the first time in the organization’s history.
Along with capital improvement and programmatic support, the Forward Together campaign safeguards Campagna Center’s long-standing success and secures its sustainability for the future.
“We were incredibly honored by Ms. Scott’s significant investment, which represents the largest single donation in our organization’s history,” said Campagna Center’s Board Chair Janice Abraham. “This gift is a testament to Campagna Center’s seven decades of service and support to the Alexandria community.”
